Everything you need to know and more

Why choose osteopathy?
Osteopaths believe in a holistic approach to treatment, which means we take everything into account, from your sleep, stress levels, home and work life and base your treatment plan around you. It’s unique to each person and we encourage you to be a part of your own health and healing journey. So whatever life is throwing at you, we have you covered.
What do I need to know before treatment?

For postural assessment, observations and testing to be carried out you should wear comfortable clothes that allow movement. If you are comfortable doing so we may ask you to dress down, so shorts for men, shorts/vest/sports bra for women would be appropriate.

If you have been doing sports, then please freshen up before attending treatments, and ensure you have enough time available. Please do not eat a big meal before you arrive as you may feel uncomfortable lying on your stomach.

What products do you use during treatment?

Osteopaths use minimal products during treatments and it should not be confused with massage, which can use oils and waxes. A small amount may be used if soft tissue mobilisation is appropriate for your complaint. If you have any skin allergies, please let us know before treatment.

Missed appointments will be charged at 100% rate.

How much does a treatment cost?
Our prices vary depending on the package you have requested, all prices can be viewed here.
Will my treatment be painful?

Osteopaths can use direct (soft tissue mobilisations/articulations) and indirect (fascial unwinding/cranial osteopathy) techniques, depending on the nature of your complaint.

With direct techniques, there may be times when your treatment will be slightly uncomfortable. This is due to deep pressure/trigger point techniques, which help relieve muscles tension and pain long term. If you are in acute pain, we work with your body and can offer a treatment to calm the nervous system and promote healing.

How many treatments do I need?
This depends on the type of injury you have or the type of treatment you are looking for. Some of our clients like to have regular monthly treatments to keep their body in peak condition and prevent injuries from happening in the first place.
What advice can you give me after my treatment?

As part of your rehabilitation we offer individualised exercise plans that can be carried out in the home at a time of your choosing, this will aid in your recovery.

Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins that have been released from the tissue. Rest as much as possible following treatment, this will assist the healing process. Avoid alcohol or any other stimulants (including tea/coffee) after treatment as these will dehydrate you.

Only eat a light meal. Eating large meals will cause blood to be diverted to the gut to help with the digestion of food. The demands of digestion will divert energy away from the healing process.

If we have used soft tissue mobilisation, you may experience a headache and/or dizziness due to improved circulation, this is only temporary. Bruising can occur due to deep pressure/trigger point technique. Some techniques to improve your range of movement may feel sore the following day but this will subside quickly.

The after-effects should resolve within 48 hours. If you are at all worried about any of these please get in touch and we will be happy to discuss your concerns.
